GUIDE TO LISA (Library Information Science Abstract)

LISA : A Brief Introduction

LISA is Library Information Science Abstract that was firstly published by Silver Platter Information Ltd on April 1988, in the form of a CD-ROM database. It contains approximately 100000 bibliographic records, with abstract, from 1969 to March 1988, of the literature in Librarianship and Information Science. It is produced in London by Library Association Publishing Ltd. It is twice per year updated. Nowadays, LISA is the part of Cambridge Science Association (CSA) internet database service, covering more than 500 periodicals from over 60 countries. It also contains the unpublished institutional and academic research from the recent research in Library and Information Science database. The following guideline is to use LISA via CSA.

Guideline of using LISA

1. Find the web of the University of Sheffield : www.sheffield.ac.uk

2. In the above part, click “log into MUSE” , then

3. On this screen, fill your username and password, and click “login”

4. Just under the heading MUSE (on the top), click “library”

5. In the box, find and click “Access library’s Subject Database”

6. In this university library web, click “Alphabetical table” (in the database box),

then

7. Select the capital “L” (for LISA) , then

8. Find “LISA via CSA”, then click it, you will watch on the screen about

the information like this :

LISA via CSA
LISA provides bibliographic information about past and present developments in librarianship, information science, online retrieval, publishing and information technology. This database covers over five hundred periodicals from over sixty countries. It also includes unpublished academic and institutional research from the Current Research in Library and Information Science database.LISA is part of CSA Internet database service: Core Cambridge sciences collection.
Full text linksAs part of the Library´s ongoing commitment to adding value to electronic resources, links to the Library´s ejournal subscriptions have been implemented in this database via the Ovid LinkSolver™ link resolver software. Click on Full text at Univ of Sheffield Library? (below the abstract) and a new window will open. This window will display links to full text (where the Library has one or more subscriptions to the item) and two Library holdings links. Selecting the Library Catalog Holdings link will search Star for the journal's international standard serial number (ISSN), while selecting the COPAC Library holdings link will search the COPAC database for the journal's ISSN.
In the Other links section, Find Journal Website and Search Library catalogue provide the opportunity to search journal publishers' web sites, and to check Star for further details of the Library's print and electronic subscriptions.
Access This service is available via the campus network. It can also be accessed directly from this page by connecting to the LISA via CSA web site.
